PRODS POT ADVENTURE TRIP

Prod's Pot 20/07/2024

Cavers where:

Ray

Mags

Lukas

Mark

After wee chat about heading to Shannon in next few weeks we wanted to see how fit physically and mentally we are for the trip. Ray suggested to do Prod's and Noon's in one go. So after meeting in the hub and helping Ray to fix his car ,we headed up to the first cave. After briefing from Ray of all do's and dont's at the four tight pitches that were ahead of us we got in. Not sure what to say about the SRT part of the cave... It definitely was a challenge, especially last pitch were you had to extend descender on your cow's tail as there wasn't much room to have your arms by your sides. You literally had to be shoved between the walls and boulders that were tightly keeping you in place, force yourself through to get spat on the rope hanging in the air and thanking for all your SRT training and getting your gear right in place so you didn't break your neck at the bottom of the pitch. After that extreme experience we stripped our SRT kit and went caving. Water, water, everywhere water, some places armpits high. Few passage filled with mud, mud, lots of mud hahaha that led us to and amazing formation ( I think called monument?) we got few pictures there and head back where we left our SRT stuff. After wee break 3 of us went for more explanation since water level was lower then usually and we could go places where Ray has never been to. We heard a lot of water running somewhere so we decided to find it. Expecting to see a massive waterfall (based on the sound that we were hearing) we found few wee cascades and another stream way that we followed right to were it ended with a dive!

Way back was slow and exhausting. I went first, it was really hard to get out through the boulder choke, with your legs tight together it wasn't easy to make forward movement. Second pitch came easier but as I was about to reach third one I soon learnt that Lukas was in trouble and the boulder choke. After descending back to him , with some moral support he managed to get out of it. As we were slowly progressing our way out I've managed to forget that at next pitch I should rebelay at divination. With that small mistake I got stock in between two walls with legs hanging in the air and no way out. I informed Lukas who was behind me just at the divination point that I'm unable to move. He unclipped himself and scramble up under my legs to give me a chance to pull myself up to a wider section where I could finally move. From that point everything went smoothly and we quickly found ourselves outside with the Sun still shining but late hour on the clock we had to abandon the idea of doing noon's. (It was flooded anyway,as we bumped into another group in Prod's Pot who tried noon's before heading over to Prod's)

It was another brilliant caving, with black bruised elbows and sore bodies we headed home.

Thanks guys!
